I must admit fully, before I even get into this at all, that this is an incomplete thought. It is at best an observation, perhaps even a clever philosophical musing. I must also give credit to a good friend who was able to apply the most excellent metaphor that I will use in this post. I won't mention names but he knows who he is.
For our little journey here we will need to imagine we have a capacity filled arena. For simplicity sake, let's say it holds 50,000 people. Now at the middle of this stadium we have a simple pedestal. This pedestal for the time being is empty. Now we need to ask every person in that audience to wish, hope with every fiber of their being, and pray that a cookie will appear on that pedestal when they open their eyes. Here in it's basest form we have magick. magick is trying to manipulate the physical world through will or invoking deities or ceremony. one could easily go on for quite sometime arguing with others about whether or not a cookie would appear on the pedestal. Rather that argue whether or not direct black and white magick works, or if supernatural events occur or if they can occur, let us take a look at some grey area here.
We'll go a step further. Let's say that we also ask these 50,000 people to believe 100% that there is a cookie on the pedestal. if every single person in that stadium believes in full that there is a cookie sitting there, does it matter if there is a physical cookie on the pedestal ? or does that cookie that only exists in the minds of those 50,000 still have the same power as a physical cookie. Is the cookie part of reality ? Does this mean that we have created something?
Like I said in the beginning this is an incomplete thought, but the basis is laid for some serious thought here. what does this idea mean to the paranormal community? what does it mean to humanity? What does it mean to our definition of what is real and what is not?
